Meatless beef burger patties have largely dominated plant alternative menus. Well, until now.
Bits x Bites has invested in Next Gen Foods, a Singapore-based company making chicken from plants. The newest US$20 million extended Seed round brings the entire Seed round to US$30 million. The initial US$10 million was already the largest Seed round for a plant-based food tech company, says Pitchbook.
Other investors of the round include GGV Capital; Temasek; K3; beverage company Yeo Hiap Seng; author Chris Yeh; and Dele Alli, the England national team footballer.
“Next Gen is an incredible team fueled with remarkable industry experience in the meat alternative sector, from investment to distribution to product development. We couldn’t be more excited to back the team in its latest round and to help it tackle the meatless chicken opportunity,” says Matilda Ho, founder and managing director, Bits x Bites.
Next Gen’s first product—branded TiNDLE Thy—offers the unmistakable taste and versatility of chicken thigh meat for cuisines including Chinese, Western, Indian, and Middle Eastern. Since launched in Singapore in early 2021, TiNDLE is sold in over 70 restaurants in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. This includes ADDA by four times Michelin Star Chef Manjunath Mural and two Michelin Star Bo Innovation by Chef Alvin Leung in Hong Kong.
With the new funding, the company is planning its upcoming US launch later this year, followed by Europe and other cities across Asia.
